……….take a holiday! I’m not joking. And it doesn’t have to be a summer holiday, or a long holiday. Sometimes just taking a break from the norm is enough. I have recently (though now it feels like forever ago already) come back from 10 day holiday to a gorgeously hot and sunny Ottawa, Canada. We were there for 10 days and ‘off’ for 14 days. What I love about holidays is not only the obvious: hotter weather, different culture, new people it’s the fact that it gives us an opportunity to ‘check out’ of our lives and ‘check in’ with ourselves. Being away from home (assuming your holiday isn’t affected by illness, terribly behaved kids or natural disasters), gives us some space.
The space allows us to relax and to gain perspective. In the day-to-day mill of life, no matter how good your self care is, we get caught up in stuff that affects how we think. Taking a holiday (which could be anything done away from home for a period of time) gets us off the treadmill of life. It is stress reducing. It allows us to have another perspective and to think more freely. Holidays may be needed to reignite your creativity, your love life, your relationships with children. So, go on, book a holiday and regain perspective!
Your nervous system will thank you 🙂
